La Antigua Guatemala

I arrived on Tuesday night in La Antigua Guatemala, a UNESCO world heritage site.
The Gecko shuttle service took me in El Salvador. 5 hours drive. The driver told me as we got here "you know your are in Antigua when start the paved streets". The pavement is pretty authentic and messy. Don t where heels in Antigua!

Weather is so cool, no more sweating!

I am staying in the cheapest ($5 a dorm) and cleanest hostel of the city! El pasar de los años. The beds are really confortable and warm. They clean all day long! There is a functional kitchen. We are 2 blocks from the cathedral!
Cathedral of San jose

In 5 days in Antigua, I simply enjoyed walking about those beautiful paved streets admiring every colonial building. The houses are colorful. No house is moderne here. Although you can find Mc Donalds , subway, Quick (hmm,  no Starbucks!?), they are all located in colonial buildings, with no big flag outside the door.

Ruins of the Carmen church

I also took salsa classes with a real profesional and competitor danser, Manolo. After 2 months in Cuba, dancing with sexy Cubans, it was time for me to learn the technic! Manolo is a fantastic profesor!

On the top of the Cerro de la Cruz,  there is an amazing view on the city and the surrounding mountains. The view of the volcano del agua is really beautiful, despite the clouds.

Guatemalteques I have met, even briefly, have been so nice, welcoming, helpful, smiley... It is so enjoyable!

A place that I really liked: the chocó museo. A shop with a little free museum. The explications are really interesting, there are samples and great chocolate to buy. You know me, I can't resist.

The market is huge! I ate there once with Gaelle, a really nice french girl staying in my dorm.we had local food but as always, I asked no rice, no beens. I had my Pollo asado (grilled chicken) served with really good local veggies!
Palacio de los capitanes

I have to shorten my stay in Antigua cause I am heading to Semuc Champey to work in a lodge called Utopia!  So exciting!
