Utila is one of the two Honduran Bay Islands. The other one is Roatan. Utila is more popular for backpackers and divers. To get there, you either take a flight or bus to La Ceiba and then a 1-hour or so ferry. (2 ferry/day $25 on way)
The population is a mix of Garifunas speaking Creole English, Honduran people, Americans and quite a few western immigrants.
The island is pretty small.
Tons of dive centers stand next to each other on the water front.
I picked "the Parrots" thanks to their aggressive commercial approach and my exhausting journey from Guatemala. I did my Rescue certificate in 5 days for 170$ (including accommodation). It was very intense and fun as well.
The beaches are further away from the center.
